Dementia Friendly River Forest Joins DFA Community Network!

Dementia Friendly America welcomes the Village of River Forest, Illinois to the DFA network of communities! Taking a multi-sector approach to develop innovations, Dementia Friendly River Forest has selected the Village of River Forest, the Oak Park/River Forest Township and the Loyola University Health System as the champion organizations that will coordinate the initiative.

In addition to receiving support from the mayor of the Village of River Forest, Dementia Friendly River Forest (DFRF) has developed partnerships with the local police and fire departments and has started developing partnerships with local libraries as well as home care and social services organizations. DFRF will work with the Center for Gerontology at Concordia University Chicago to track its progress and share findings with the community. The initiative is planning to develop the “River Forest Care Corps” to reduce stigma while supporting individuals living with dementia and their families. The care corps will use volunteers to offer respite care to caregivers.
