n4a's Senior Transportation Reauthorization Priorities

6/10/2014

The Senior Transportation Task Force (STTF) sent House and Senate Authorizers a letter outlining transportation program priorities for consideration during upcoming surface transportation reauthorization debates.

These priorities include:

  • increasing funding for transit and transportation programs aimed at helping older adults maintain independence and mobility in their communities;
  • boosting technical assistance for senior transit programs and sourcing this funding from the Highway Trust Fund;
  • studying to better understand gaps in transportation services for older adults;
  • and better integrating transportation and transit planning into broader community and Aging Network planning efforts.
The STTF is a coalition of national organizations advocating on behalf of the transportation needs of seniors. n4a, in partnership with Easter Seals, co-leads the Task Force, and will continue to advocate for critical mobility access that helps older Americans remain active and engaged in their daily lives.
